By having a clean and non-sulphated lead plates, porosity and diffusion of the plate surface areas are maximised. This naturally would allow the battery to attain optimum capacity. For the duration of charge-discharge cycles, voltage is maintained above 12.3v and specific gravity is kept between 1.25 to 1.28 levels which indicates robust and healthy operation.

When sulphation of the plates are kept to a minimal, battery self discharge characteristics change dramatically. Accumulated charge within the battery will be stored for much longer periods of time as compared to a sulphated battery. Discharge action is normally retarded by 40% in such situations.
Another benefit of a clean non-sulphated plate is the reduction in electrolyte water loss. As compared to a sulphated battery, the probability of electrolyte loss is reduced by almost 50% (volume – charge cycle). This is a very important benefit especially for Sealed Maintenance Free (SMF) type of batteries where lost electrolyte cannot be replaced. |
